I. Hydraulic System Warm-up

When the hydraulic oil temperature is low, rapid operation can damage the hydraulic components.

  1. Then, increase the engine speed to maximum and continuously operate the bucket and arm for 5 minutes.
  2. Run the mini excavator engine at medium speed and operate the bucket to perform warm-up.
  3. Jack up the machine and turn the tracks to warm up the left and right travel motors respectively.

During warm-up operation, pay full attention to the safety of the surrounding environment. When temperatures are low, people’s reactions can be relatively slower, so take care to avoid hitting nearby people or objects during warm-up.

II. Mini Excavator Engine Warm-up

After boarding the machine, the first step is to start the engine and run it at low speed for 5 minutes. During the engine warm-up process, perform the following checks:

  1. Is the oil pressure warning light off?
  2. Are there any oil or coolant leaks?
  3. Are the engine sound and exhaust color normal?
  4. Is the charging indicator light off?
  5. Are there any abnormalities in any part of the machine?

III. Long-term Storage and Maintenance in Winter

If a mini excavator will not be used during winter and left idle, it should be properly stored and maintained. This will ensure it performs at its best when used again. Specific maintenance measures are as follows:

  1. Clean the mud and dirt off the mini excavator’s surface, and check for loose fasteners.
  2. Check if the coolant level and engine oil level are normal. Check if the engine oil quality is normal. Check the antifreeze level of the fuel.
  3. If the weather is extremely cold and the mini excavator will be parked for a very long time, drain the engine coolant. To prevent the battery from discharging, remove the battery and store it in a warm place.
  4. Start the engine and run it periodically. If the coolant level or engine oil level is below normal, add fluid to the normal level before starting. In cold weather, turn the key to the preheat position until the preheat indicator light turns on (repeat preheating several times), then start the engine. After idling for 5-10 minutes, operate each cylinder without load 5-10 times, each time stopping 5-10mm short of the full stroke. Finally, run the engine at maximum RPM and quickly operate each cylinder 5-10 times, and simultaneously operate left/right swing and forward/backward travel 3 times each. Normal operation can only begin once the system temperature reaches 50–80°C. After that, continue to move all working devices through all their actions for 5-10 minutes before stopping the engine.
  5. Diesel fuel should be changed to a -10 to -30 grade, depending on the region. The further north the region, the higher the negative number grade required for the diesel. Additionally, change the diesel fuel filter. Change the engine oil to a thickened oil suitable for the local climate, and also change the engine oil filter. If there are hydraulic oil leaks anywhere, repair them promptly. If conditions allow, insulate the fuel tank.
  6. Carefully inspect the cooling system’s rubber hoses for aging or cracking. Replace them immediately if problems are found, as these parts are more prone to failure in winter. If possible, use hot water. It is best to fill the radiator with hot water daily, as this helps start the engine more easily. However, be careful not to forget to drain the water. The reason antifreeze is not recommended is that in extremely cold regions, using antifreeze can make it harder to start the engine.
